TCEB, in collaboration with public and private sector partners, had organised the Chiang Mai Yi Peng Lantern Festival in 2024. The festival's aim was to revitalise the local economy following recent floods and position Chiang Mai as a leading international festival city.
The event, which ran from 13-17 November 2024, was themed "Lanna, Worship and Illumination." It featured a range of activities, including a public relations campaign to promote the festival, stunning illuminations inspired by Lanna culture, a curated selection of products and services, and a visitor-friendly map and guided tours.
Mr Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, President of the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization), or TCEB, emphasised the government's commitment to promoting Thailand's soft power through festivals like Yi Peng.
TCEB partnered with Grab Thailand to offer a 15% discount on rides to and from the festival, encouraging visitors to use public transportation and reducing traffic congestion. This collaboration highlights the importance of public-private partnerships in promoting tourism and economic growth.
