TCEB Sets Five-Year Carbon Reduction Target for Thailand’s Business Events Industry

The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization), widely known as TCEB, has announced a new sustainability mission that sets a clear five-year carbon reduction target for Thailand’s Business Events industry. The initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (TonCO₂e) by 2030, reinforcing the country’s long-term commitment to carbon neutrality and a net zero future.

This ambitious target builds on measurable progress already achieved across the sector. In fiscal year 2025, the Thai Business Events industry successfully reduced and avoided 2,445.97 TonCO₂e across 232 events. This represents a substantial increase from 780 TonCO₂e recorded in FY 2024, reflecting year-on-year growth of more than 300 per cent and demonstrating growing industry-wide engagement with sustainable event practices.

Mrs Supawan Teerarat, President of TCEB, highlighted that strengthening the environmental performance of Thailand’s events sector aligns closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and supports the Thai government’s national development strategy through measurable contributions to sustainable economic growth.

“Thailand is advancing sustainability from aspiration to achievement, transforming long-term commitments into tangible and measurable results,” she said. “By embedding sustainability into every aspect of the Business Events industry, we are not only fulfilling our responsibility to the environment, but also strengthening Thailand’s competitiveness as a preferred destination for organisations that prioritise sustainability.”

To support the five-year target, TCEB has revised its Terms of Reference for bidders and proposal submitters. Event organisers are now required to plan carbon-neutral events, calculate their carbon footprints and implement appropriate mitigation measures, including certification or compliance with additional guidance issued by TCEB. Organisers are also encouraged to offset unavoidable emissions by sourcing carbon credits from greenhouse gas reduction projects within Thailand, ensuring emissions are reduced or fully neutralised at a national level.

To facilitate implementation, TCEB offers practical tools and support, including a carbon footprint avoidance calculator for event planning, the Zero Carbon application developed by the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization, access to auditing and verification networks, and domestic carbon credit projects. These measures aim to enhance accountability, encourage continuous improvement and support the long-term sustainability of Thailand’s Business Events industry.
