Thailand Strengthens Tourism Ties with India at SATTE 2026

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) reaffirmed its commitment to the Indian market at the South Asia Travel and Tourism Exchange (SATTE) 2026, held from 25-27 February in New Delhi. As one of Thailand's most significant source markets, India continues to play a vital role in shaping the country's tourism direction. At the exhibition, TAT introduced its latest campaign, Healing is the New Luxury, highlighting wellness tourism, cultural experiences, and sustainability as key pillars of future growth.

India's expanding outbound travel market presents strong opportunities for Thailand. With an estimated 2.5 million Indian visitors expected in 2026, the sector is set to deliver considerable economic value. This growth is largely driven by Millennial and Gen Z travellers, who increasingly seek meaningful, personalised journeys centred on well-being, cultural immersion, and authentic experiences. These preferences align closely with Thailand's strategy to promote high-quality, experience-led tourism.

At the core of TAT's approach is its focus on wellness tourism. The Healing is the New Luxury campaign positions Thailand as a leading destination for holistic travel, combining natural landscapes, traditional healing practices, and world-class hospitality. From serene coastal retreats and mountain escapes to enriching cultural encounters, the campaign invites travellers to rejuvenate both mind and body through sustainable travel experiences.

The economic impact of Indian tourism remains substantial. In 2025, India ranked as Thailand's fourth-largest inbound market, with 2.48 million visitors generating over 93.86 billion Baht in revenue. Continued growth has been supported by improved accessibility, including visa exemption measures allowing Indian passport holders to stay for up to 60 days, as well as enhanced air connectivity. In 2025, ten airlines operated direct routes between India and Thailand, offering approximately 3.8 million seats.

Sustainability remains central to Thailand's long-term tourism vision. TAT continues to promote responsible tourism practices that prioritise environmental protection, cultural preservation, and community engagement. In addition to established destinations such as Phuket, Krabi, and Chiang Mai, efforts are being made to promote emerging locations including Kanchanaburi and Sukhothai, ensuring a more balanced distribution of tourism benefits.

As Thailand and India strengthen their tourism ties, the shared focus on wellness, sustainability, and cultural exchange is set to create lasting economic and social value for both nations.
