From Change That Matters to Impact That Lasts

Driving Sustainable Growth, Innovation & Global Connectivity

Thailand's Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) industry has entered a new phase of transformation in 2026, evolving from post-pandemic recovery towards long-term sustainability, economic impact, innovation and regional leadership. Led primarily by the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), the industry is increasingly being repositioned as a strategic economic driver rather than solely a tourism-related sector.

Thailand continues to maintain its standing as one of Asia's leading MICE destinations due to its world-class hospitality infrastructure, strong international air connectivity, internationally recognised service standards, and close public-private sector collaboration. According to TCEB's 2026 Strategic Direction announcement, the industry is projected to welcome approximately 29.4 million MICE travellers, including 28.2 million domestic travellers and 1.2 million international travellers. Total industry revenue is expected to reach THB 163 billion, comprising THB 92 billion from domestic markets and THB 71 billion from international business events. TCEB is also targeting overall industry growth of 10% in 2026, while the sector's contribution to Thailand's GDP is expected to increase from 1.65% to 1.77%. Prior to the pandemic, Thailand's MICE sector generated more than THB 200 billion annually, underscoring its significant role within the national economy.

Under the strategic theme "From Change that Matters to Impact that Lasts", TCEB has introduced a new national roadmap positioning Thailand as "Global–Asia's Trusted Gateway". The strategy reflects a major policy shift towards high-value MICE business, sustainable growth, industry-focused events, data-driven management, innovation, technology integration, greater regulatory flexibility and nationwide economic distribution. Through its "TCEB Go" strategy, the bureau aims to strengthen Thailand's international competitiveness, develop industry-specific MICE clusters, enhance sustainability standards, build stronger public-private partnerships, and leverage innovation, data and digital intelligence to support long-term development.

Sustainability has now become one of the most important pillars of Thailand's MICE development strategy. TCEB has announced a national target to reduce carbon emissions from the MICE sector by 20,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent (tCO₂e) by 2030. In 2025 alone, 232 events implemented sustainability measures, resulting in carbon reductions of 2,446 tCO₂e, representing a remarkable 313% increase compared with 2024 levels. Thailand is increasingly promoting itself globally as "Thailand, Your Sustainable MICE Destination", with a strong emphasis on ESG integration, sustainable venue standards, green meeting guidelines, community-based economic benefits and environmentally responsible event operations. This sustainability agenda is rapidly becoming a key competitive advantage, particularly among multinational corporations and international associations prioritising responsible event management.

At the same time, Thailand's MICE industry is accelerating its digital transformation initiatives. One major development is the launch of the MICE Data Platform, which incorporates big data analytics, interactive dashboards, industry benchmarking systems, open API connectivity and advanced data intelligence tools. This initiative forms part of TCEB's 2025–2027 strategic digital roadmap and is intended to strengthen Thailand's international competitiveness through more effective, data-driven decision-making. The growing integration of AI-driven marketing, smart event systems, hybrid meeting capabilities and digital engagement platforms is also reshaping the operational landscape of Thailand's business events industry.

Thailand is also increasingly positioning exhibitions not merely as promotional activities, but as strategic economic platforms capable of driving trade, investment, technology transfer and industry development. TCEB has publicly articulated its ambition for Thailand to become "The Best Exhibition Nation in ASEAN". Key sectors targeted for future growth include smart manufacturing, biotechnology, wellness and medical tourism, creative industries, food security, innovation and technology. As a result, the industry's focus is evolving beyond tourism volume towards measurable economic and investment outcomes.

In line with broader national development objectives, Thailand's MICE strategy is also emphasising regional expansion and nationwide economic distribution. While Bangkok remains the country's primary MICE hub, destinations such as Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya, Khon Kaen, Chiang Rai and Udon Thani are receiving increased international promotion and investment support. TCEB has additionally expanded its MICE Fast Track services beyond Bangkok airports to include several regional gateways, helping to improve accessibility and operational efficiency for international delegates and event organisers. This decentralisation strategy is creating new business opportunities for regional destinations, local enterprises and tourism-related industries across the country.

Thailand continues to strengthen its position as one of the world's leading destinations for luxury incentive travel, corporate retreats, destination weddings and, in particular, large-scale Indian weddings. The country's competitive advantages include internationally recognised hotels and convention facilities, strong aviation connectivity, experienced event professionals, cultural adaptability and high-quality hospitality services. The Indian wedding and luxury events segment remains an especially important contributor to Thailand's broader MICE ecosystem, benefiting hotels, event planners, decorators, entertainment providers, transport companies and tourism suppliers nationwide.

One of the industry's greatest strengths continues to be the close collaboration between organisations such as TCEB, the Thailand Incentive and Convention Association (TICA), the Thai Exhibition Association (TEA), the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), and various private-sector stakeholders. A notable recent initiative is the expansion of MICE Day into Thailand MICE Week 2026, which aims to further unify the industry through activities such as MICE Standards Day, MICE Academy Day, the MICE City Summit, industry networking activities, and educational and sustainability initiatives. In addition, the joint Thailand Power Up campaign between TCEB and TAT aims to attract approximately 65,000 MICE travellers and generate an estimated THB 4.29 billion in revenue between 2025 and 2026.

Thailand's MICE industry in 2026 is therefore undergoing one of its most important strategic transitions in recent years. The sector is no longer focused solely on recovery, but rather on building sustainable long-term growth, generating higher economic value, enhancing international competitiveness and supporting nationwide development. Through strong leadership from TCEB and active collaboration with organisations such as TICA and TEA, Thailand is positioning itself not only as a leading regional destination for meetings and exhibitions, but also as a strategic gateway connecting global business with Asia.

Looking ahead, the industry's future direction will increasingly be defined by sustainability, innovation, digital transformation, premium experiences and measurable economic impact, placing Thailand in a strong position to remain one of Asia's leading MICE destinations for many years to come.
