Chiang Mai

Known as the ‘Rose of the North,’ Chiang Mai offers both tourists and MICE visitors a range of unique world-class experiences, from its cooler weather, breathtaking landscape, rich history and culture, distinctive cuisine, and plethora of attractions and activities. Originally the seat of the ancient Lanna Kingdom, literally the ‘kingdom of a million rice fields,’ Chiang Mai was once a major trading post between Southern China and what is now Myanmar, and this storied history can be seen throughout the region.

Beyond its sprawling rice fields, magnificent mountain peaks, and rolling valleys, Chiang Mai’s natural attractions are manifold. Visitors looking for adventure can zipline through the verdant tree canopies, brave the rapids while white water rafting, try their hand at rock climbing, or explore the local flora and fauna in the elephant sanctuaries or national parks, such as Doi Inthanon, renowned for its bird watching opportunities.

For those wanting to steep themselves in the unique traditions and history of Chiang Mai, the city welcomes visitors from far and wide to experience its quintessential Chiang Mai Flower Festival, a three-day floral extravaganza featuring blooms unique to the region, or the magical Yi Peng Festival, where hundreds of floating lanterns are released into the night sky; an iconic and world-renowned sight. Aside from these, the city is home to over 300 wats or temples, the highest density in any province in Thailand. Many featuring the architecture of the Lanna period, must-visits include the elevated Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, perched atop a mountain, as well as the Wat Prathat Doi Kham, which hosts the largest seated Buddha in the region. Visitors will find no trouble in exploring these historical sites on foot or bike, and the city’s famed old city is minutes away from their Night Bazaar, both of which are redolent with food, art, boutiques, and galleries to fill any travellers’ itinerary.

More than just its cultural and natural wonders, Chiang Mai has an array of luxury properties, all of which offer world-class hospitality, cuisine, and MICE facilities. Those looking to sample Chiang Mai’s unique culinary fare will be treated to heritage recipes in the tradition of the northern highland tribes, while for those wanting an even more authentic experience, many of the hill tribe villages in and near the city are happy to welcome visitors to experience their distinctive way of life.
