TICA MICE UPDATE

VOL: 47 SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER 2017

MESSAGE FROM

SUMATE SUDASNA

The Royal Cremation completes the most glorious reign the Thai people have ever known. We have said goodbye to our Great King, whose final departure has also taken along a collective part of the Thai people. All said and done, this is a testament of the unique organisational skills of the Thai people who have planned, built and organised an event of such epic scale that the world is still in awe.

As President of Thailand’s premier MICE association, I take great pride in saying that this is the best confidence builder for those who are looking to host an event here. For no matter the scale of your project, the number of attendees, or the sheer complexity of it all, you can be rest assured that it will get done – on time and with the best value.

In the meantime, Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) continues its marketing drive to promote Thailand overseas and has recently launched a new marketing campaign at IMEX America. TCEB has positioned the country as Asia’s top Bleisure destination, further strengthening the delivery of quality business venues and innovative leisure activities for US-based event organisers. The US remains a strong market, eighth on the top 10 country list, supplying 42,681 MICE visitors in 2016.

Unlike most other issues of TICA’s Mice Update newsletter, we will not be showcasing a particular destination this time. However, we will be profiling the various dedicated Convention and Exhibition Centres spread across all corners of the kingdom. Thailand delivers world-standard venues with a diverse choice of destinations, topped off with the inimitable Thai hospitality that wins everyone’s hearts.

Another interesting breaking news that is sure to create plenty of waves amongst the ASEAN business and investment communities is billionaire Richard Liu’s proclamation of setting his sights on Thailand to make it a major hub for his e-commerce expansion in Asia. Coming to Bangkok in early November, Mr. Liu’s expansion plans will no doubt make Thailand a better equipped destination that will score higher in the world’s MICE market, both digitally and delightfully.
