Thailand soft launches its first carbon trading platform, enabling sustainable events and benefiting local communities through carbon credits.
Thailand has launched its first carbon trading platform, aimed at supporting sustainable events and benefiting local communities through carbon credits. The platform, designed for medium and small enterprises, is currently being trialled among individual travellers and is expected to be tested with MICE entrepreneurs by the end of the year.
Five key organisations are behind this initiative: The Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand, which owns the "Carbon Neutrality 4 All" project; The Central Group, the platform's funder; The Ministry of Interior, which provides carbon credits for trade; and the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) and Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), who will promote the platform within their networks.
The organisations recently signed a memorandum of understanding in Bangkok, marking a significant step towards Thailand's goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions through carbon credit trading in the SMEs, MICE, tourism, and service sectors. The platform aims to offer premium-quality carbon credits sourced from carbon dioxide and methane reduction programmes.
Mr. Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, President of TCEB, announced that TCEB's participation in the "Carbon Neutrality 4 All" platform aligns with the bureau's "Partnership for Business Success" and "Go Sustainability" strategies for the Thai MICE industry. TCEB will encourage Thai MICE operators to adopt the carbon credit trading platform, following capacity building on carbon avoidance calculation in recent years. This initiative will demonstrate how the Thai MICE industry can reduce environmental impacts while generating positive economic and social benefits for local communities.
