Phuket Targets B500bn in Revenue for 2025

Phuket is aiming for 500 billion baht in tourism revenue in 2025, following a successful year in 2024, when 13.14 million tourists generated 497 billion baht, according to Governor Sophon Suwannarat. He noted that Phuket remains a top destination, with over 13 million international visitors last year, second only to Bangkok.

"We don't need excessive numbers; around 13 million tourists annually is ideal," said Mr. Sophon. "We want visitors to stay longer and spend more."

Next year, Phuket will host the World Sustainable Tourism Council conference, implementing measures to address tourism's impact, including rising waste and water pollution. The governor also stressed the importance of tourists respecting local laws and culture.

To improve waste management, Phuket currently processes 85,862 cubic metres of wastewater daily. In collaboration with China Water Environment Group (CWEG), the province is studying the feasibility of adding wastewater treatment systems in key areas such as Patong and Kathu. A second incinerator has been built in Phuket City Municipality with a 500-tonne daily capacity, bringing the total waste processing capacity to 1,200 tonnes per day. Plans for a third incinerator are in place to handle an additional 500 tonnes per day over the next decade.

Phuket is also investing in infrastructure and public services, aiming to enhance safety and the quality of life for both residents and visitors. "These projects will help Phuket become a livable city and efficiently welcome tourists," Mr. Sophon concluded.
