TICA MICE UPDATE

Known as a major commercial and political centre of the Isan region of Thailand, Khon Kaen is seeing a multitude of visitors each year. Although it is a fairly new city, established a little over 200 years ago, its well-developed infrastructure and facilities have made it one of the fastest growing areas in the country.

There are several flight routes into the city, a vast variety of accommodations and many types of eateries. Adding that to the fact that Khon Kaen was nominated by the Thai government as the export centre for trade throughout the Indo-China region, the city makes for an ideal MICE destination in Thailand. Moreover, Khon Kaen is one of the winners of IBM’s Smarter Cities program for developing MICE promoting strategies.

While many of its numerous 4- and 5-star hotels offer space for smaller and more personalised events, some have room for thousands of people, as do the city’s convention centres. The array of hotels and spacious convention centres make the area fit to accommodate a high volume of visitors.

Many flock to this town to absorb its rich culture and get a glimpse of the traditional Thai way of life. A number of historical and natural attractions, such as national parks, caves and a dam, dot this landscape; there are also museums and a lot more activities. Khon Kaen has become not only a green escape, but also one of the leading destinations for business events in Thailand.
