Thailand’s Tourism Boom Surpasses 20 Million Visitors, Generating THB 937 Billion

Thailand’s tourism industry continues to thrive, welcoming over 20 million international visitors between 1st January and 10th August 2025, generating an estimated 937.6 billion baht in revenue.

According to figures released by Minister of Tourism and Sports, Sorawong Thienthong, total international arrivals reached 20,197,119. Leading the way are Chinese tourists with 2.83 million arrivals, followed by Malaysia (2.78 million), India (1.43 million), Russia (1.14 million), and South Korea (950,692).

Last week saw a significant rise in arrivals across key markets, largely driven by summer holidays and a series of public holidays in Japan, resulting in an 86.3% increase in Japanese tourists. This surge moved Japan from fifth to third place in the weekly rankings. Long-haul markets, such as Israel, also saw growth, with many visitors arriving after religious observances. Weekly arrivals totalled 627,339, a 7.08% increase from the previous week, with daily averages close to 90,000.

The top five visitor nationalities last week were:

  • China – 102,750
  • Malaysia – 85,622
  • Japan – 37,611
  • India – 35,387
  • South Korea – 32,320

Arrivals from Japan, Malaysia, and China grew by 86.33%, 10.58%, and 5.55% respectively, while South Korea and India saw slight declines.

Looking ahead, the Ministry expects stable growth, supported by school holidays in Europe and East Asia, the “Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025” campaign, and travel facilitation measures such as the waiver of the TM.6 immigration form. Efforts are also underway to increase flight frequencies in collaboration with airlines, aimed at further strengthening Thailand’s position as a leading global destination.
